Great Places and Billy Project

Great Places Housing Group has donated £11,000 to a Blackburn project helping vulnerable women.

The money has been used to fund the Billy Project’s Community Fridge Project, which helps provide food, healthy eating tips and budgeting advice to women who are at risk.

The food initiative is based in Albert Street, Mill Hill, at the project’s headquarters which also provides women with a safe space to exercise and also access other services around health, wellbeing and more specialised trauma-informed services.

Great Places’ Head of Community Investment Rosie Longden said: “We have been working with the Billy Project for a number of years and we are delighted to be able to be able to support them further.

“They do incredible work with a very vulnerable client group and the Community Fridge has been a lifeline to some people in that area of Blackburn. Working in partnership with other services, they have helped women at risk access the help they need and provide support to others. We look forward to seeing the project blossom.”

Director Leanne Proctor said: “We are so grateful to Great Places for their continued funding and support as it’s making such a huge impact on the people who access the Billy Project.

“We have a large clientele that sees us as a safe place to come and help themselves and build relationships with other people.”

Great Places backs Blackpool project with £2,000 donation

Great Places’ £2000 donation to the His Provision in Blackpool is being used to help people across the town.

The organisation, which has centres on Raikes Parade and Central Drive, has put the money towards running their incredible range of services, which provides food, clothes, furniture and other amenities.

The His Provision has just celebrated its 10-year anniversary and is helping around 300 people a week through its centres, its mobile shop (which visits five centres across Blackpool, soon be extended to seven) and its delivery service.

Director Jackie Kemp said: “We were very grateful to Great Places for their donation as it helps to keep the services going.

“We want to help people with dignity and all the money we make from selling donated food at a reduced cost goes back into the services so we can buy more stuff.

“The bus has proved to be very popular, and we will be introducing books so that children can get access to books and enjoy reading with parents.

“We have a fantastic network of organisations who provide us with items, and we can provide people in need with everything from items of school uniform and underwear to starter packs for families who have nothing to be able to set up their home.

“We have around 30 volunteers, so we are able to help people across Blackpool, which is incredibly important given what is happening in the world at the moment.”

Rosie Longden, Head of Community Investment, said: “The dedicated volunteers at the His Provision provide an incredible service to a lot of people and that’s why we were delighted to support them.
