As the colder months roll in, a few simple checks can help keep you, your family and your home warm, safe and comfortable throughout winter.

  • Check your boiler - make sure your boiler is working properly. If your radiators aren’t heating up or your thermostat isn’t responding, you will need to report a repair.
  • Keep your home heated and ventilated - it’s best to try keep a low, steady heat going to prevent condensation. Open windows regularly and use extractor fans to reduce moisture.
  • Test your alarms - check your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are working by pressing the test button.
  • Keep paths clear – sweep away leaves and debris to help prevent slips and falls.
  • Keep draughts out - use draught excluders and close your curtains before dark to help keep the warmth in.
  • Check drains and gutters - blocked drains and gutters can lead to damp and leaks, so make sure these are clear where possible.
  • Help us keep you safe by making sure we can get access to carry out important gas safety checks in your home.
