Holiday fun brings communities together
Across Oldham and Rochdale, customers came together over the summer to enjoy a series of free community events organised by Great Places.
Held in four neighbourhoods, the events gave new and existing customers the chance to meet their neighbours, take part in different activities and enjoy time together.
From arts and crafts and sports day games to community litter picks and catch ups over refreshments, there was something for all ages.
The events also gave us the chance to gather feedback from customers on local neighbourhoods and services, all of which will help to shape future improvements.
One of the highlights was the ‘what makes a good neighbour?’ poster competition, which saw children from our neighbourhoods share creative ideas about kindness, respect and supporting others in their community.
Young filmmakers tell Northmoor’s story
A youth-led documentary celebrating the people and stories of Northmoor was screened to a packed audience at this year’s Our Longsight Festival.
Produced with Reel MCR and commissioned by Great Places, the film explores what makes the neighbourhood unique through the eyes of the people who live and work there.
Over nearly two years, young filmmakers Joy Saraleesan and Kenan Farajallah worked with residents and community groups to capture Northmoor’s challenges, opportunities and strong community spirit. Premiered at Longsight Art Space, the documentary sparked conversations about the area’s future while showcasing the creativity and talent of local young people.
