Empowering change: How our Employability Service transformed one customer’s life

At Great Places, our Employability Service continues to play an important role in supporting customers looking for work, building their confidence and helping their personal growth. In Oldham, Employability Coach Naseem Aktar is making a real difference, one customer at a time.

We met Mrs. Adebola Oluseyi-Ogunlana, whose journey with Naseem shows how helpful one-to-one support can be. After receiving an email from Naseem, Adebola started her journey with project management training, followed by career coaching.

“Naseem helped me look for jobs and gave me lots of interview tips,” Adebola shared. “Her encouragement really boosted my confidence.”

With Naseem’s support, Adebola applied for a role at Great Places – and got it! She now works as an Independence and Wellbeing Housing Assistant at Lorna Lodge.

Naseem’s way of working is based on trust, flexibility and personal support. She meets customers where they feel comfortable and builds action plans around their needs – whether that’s confidence-building, CV help, or training. She also helps people

overcome challenges like long-term unemployment, health conditions and not having access to digital devices.

For Naseem, success is more than job offers – it’s about helping people believe in themselves again. “Adebola has come a long way. Now she’s confident, independent and thriving.”
