Stay safe this winter: Fire Safety advice from our team
As the colder months approach, it’s important to stay warm and safe. Our Fire Safety Team is here to help you reduce fire risks and keep your home protected this winter with some easy tips.
Heating Make sure electric heaters are in good condition and kept away from curtains and furniture. Portable gas heaters should only be used if professionally installed.
Electric blankets Always follow the instructions carefully. Don’t use them with hot water bottles or leave them on overnight unless they’re made for that. Replace them if they’re damaged or worn out.
Plug sockets Don’t overload sockets. Use surge protectors and avoid linking multiple extension leads together.
Candles Never leave candles burning when you’re not in the room. Use a stable, heat-safe surface and keep them away from anything that can catch fire.
Smoke alarms Test your smoke alarms once a week using the test button. If you need help with this, get in touch.
Cooking Never leave pans unattended. Keep tea towels and other flammable items away from the hob.
Staying safe doesn’t have to be complicated – just a few small checks can make a big difference.

Bringing back Salford Youth Zone
Great Places is proud to support the launch of Salford Youth Zone (SYZ), a vibrant new space for young people aged 8 to 19, or up to 25 with additional needs. SYZ is open seven days a week and offers over 20 activities per session. It’s a place where young people can build confidence, make friends, and follow their dreams.
SYZ is close to many Great Places homes and was created in response to feedback from the local community. We’ve supported the project with a £10,000 Social Value Fund contribution, made possible through our supply chain partners.
SYZ is the second site from youth charity EMPOWER and is part of the Onside Youth Zones network. Together, they’re creating safe, inclusive spaces where young people can thrive.
