Making your home your own: our updated approach to Customer Improvements
We know how important it is for your home to feel like your own. That’s why we’ve refreshed our Customer Improvements Policy, giving you clearer information and more confidence to make changes to your home.
Whether you’re thinking about redecorating, adding new flooring, or making small upgrades to support daily living, the updated policy explains what you can do yourself and what you’ll need our approval for.
We’ve worked closely with customers to shape these changes, ensuring the process is simpler, clearer, and easier to follow.
Our goal is to give you more choice and control, while still making sure homes remain safe and well maintained for everyone. The policy also explains what happens if you move home, including what to do with any agreed improvements you’ve made along the way.
We believe feeling at home really matters, and we hope this update supports you to make your space work for you.

Growing together in Bolton
Over the last 12 months, Red Lane recorded an estimated 1,200 people taking part in activities funded through our support. Nearly 40 events took place across Bolton, giving families the chance to enjoy outdoor spaces and learn new skills. Activities included bug hunts, wildlife spotting, bushcraft, beekeeping tasters, outdoor play sessions and forest school-themed activities.
These sessions are hands on, welcoming, and designed to make the most of local green spaces, turning parks and paths into places to learn and play.
Red Lane Growing Project said:
“The important thing about what we do is offering safe and accessible opportunities to access outdoor spaces. We aim to provide an inclusive environment with something for all, using the nature learning ethos to maximise the benefits for our participants. Our offer is planned in response to community needs and the approach is non prescriptive.”
This feedback highlights the value of the project and the positive difference it continues to make for local families and communities.
