Supporting children and families through community cookery workshops
We’re proud to have supported Bounceback Food CIC to deliver a series of community cookery workshops for young carers and families on low incomes.
Funded through our £5,000 Social Value Fund, the project ran for two months.
Working in partnership, Bounceback Food CIC delivered four in school cookery workshops at Knutsford Academy for young carers, alongside three community sessions at The Welcome Café on the Longridge estate.
Led by experienced community chefs, each workshop used good-quality surplus food sourced from The Bread and Butter Thing to create nutritious, affordable meals. This helped to reduce food waste while giving children the chance to learn practical cooking skills and build confidence.
Across the seven workshops, more than 70 meals were prepared. Just as importantly, the sessions created relaxed, welcoming spaces where children could try new foods, work together and learn how everyday food choices support both their health and the environment.
Andrew Kelly, Community Partnership Manager said:
“This project is a great example of what can be achieved when we work in partnership with trusted community organisations. By supporting this initiative, we’ve helped young people and families gain practical skills, build confidence and enjoy healthy meals, and also tackling food waste. It’s exactly the kind of positive impact Great Places is proud to invest in.”
