Investing in our homes

In the past year, we have spent £7 million on improvements to customer homes. Apart from major investment projects, this includes:

Investing in keeping you safe

Building safety continues to be a key focus for all housing associations and Great Places is no exception.

This year has seen our teams undertake £3 million worth of fire safety work as part of our overall improvement works programme.

Recent projects have included works at 123 Talbot Road in Blackpool and Westpoint View in Bolton, where we have carried out a number of projects to enhance fire safety. The work has included the replacement of communal and domestic alarm systems and we have a number of similar works planned to start in the next few months.

Other building safety related projects have involved upgrading electrical installations, to provide safety cut outs if an appliance is faulty, as well as any faults in the wiring.

These upgrades have included in some schemes miniature fire extinguishers actually within the electrical installation distribution boards and have been completed at several of our properties including our extra care schemes at Elk View and Tulloch Court in Blackpool with similar works planned elsewhere.

The team is also working to carry out inspections in our apartment blocks to identify and carry out any remedial work where necessary to keep fire from spreading between flats. All of this work is targeted, and looks to assess buildings based upon their height, construction, occupancy and the needs of you – our customers.

This vital work will continue to be a crucial part of upcoming investment programmes, and you can be assured that we will be continuing to monitor our buildings to ensure all remain safe. If you have any concerns or questions speak to your Neighbourhood Services Manager in the first instance.
