Working towards zero carbon by 2038

Climate change remains a challenge for all us, and Great Places remains committed to taking the necessary actions to realise our ambition to become a net zero carbon business by 2038.

In April this year, we launched our carbon management strategy highlighting the areas we are going to focus on in the next three years. A team made up of senior people across our business looks to ensure we keep on track and below are some of our achievements in the past year:

  • We continue to work towards our plan to improve the energy efficiency of our homes to a minimum Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) C rating by 2028.
  • We also remain on target with our plans to ensure that we have EPC ratings for all of homes by March 2023, with work over the past year leading to the number of homes without EPC falling to less than 1,447 homes (a reduction of 553 since April this year).
  • We currently have two projects in Fylde and Burnley where we are looking at the energy performance of our homes. This will help us have a better understanding of the effective work to take to make our homes more energy efficient.
  • We have commissioned research to look at how we can look to reduce our carbon footprint of our new homes programme.
  • We are currently trialling the use of electric and hybrid vehicles in our business.
  • We carried out reviews to look at reducing waste at our distribution centre and reducing our carbon footprint around the products we buy such as stationary.
  • We have also introduced a new scheduling system for our repairs team to help save time and reduce the number of miles driven to repairs appointments.
