Mayor pays return visit to new development in Heaton Mersey

The Mayor of Stockport, Councillor Adrian Nottingham paid a return visit to view progress at Great Places’ £24 million housing development at the former Cranford Golf Centre in Heaton Mersey.

The project was spearheaded by Lisa Newns, area services manager for Great Places’ Seedly and Langworthy neighbourhood after becoming inspired by the success of a previous project the company worked on.

The Poplars, delivered in partnership with Breck Homes, will provide 106 new homes, a mixture of two, three, and four-bed affordable houses and apartments for social rent, shared ownership (available through Plumlife Homes) and a further five homes for market sale (through Cube Homes).

“We’re delighted to have welcomed back Cllr. Nottingham for him to view progress on our flagship development to Stockport. Great Places is committed to addressing the housing crisis and The Poplars provides a range of affordable homes for the local community in what is a highly sought-after area.” said Helen Spencer, Executive Director of Growth at Great Places.

Councillor Martyn Cox, leader of Bolton Council, was the guest of honour to cut the ribbon at the event to mark the official completion of a £2.3million ‘age friendly’ development for the over-55s in the borough.

Cllr. Cox, along with senior officers from the housing and regeneration teams, had a look around our recently completed development of 18 one-bedroom cottage-style apartments in Horace Street, Halliwell, on the site of the former St Joseph’s parish centre.

The apartments, available for affordable rent, include a range of amenities like wet rooms, hidden adaptations by Invisible Creations and a shared garden to enjoy. “We’re delighted to have been able to show Cllr. Cox and his team this age-friendly scheme, which looks to address the specific need for this type of accommodation in the local area. The apartments have been carefully designed to enable our future customers to live independently for as long as possible.” said Helen Spencer, Great Places’ Executive Director of Growth.
